Effects with Friends, Couples and Siblings

By: Makenna Calderon               Back in the day, teens and families used to use technology for information and for entertainment, but now it is used for social media and keeping in touch with friends and family. According to Social Anxiety and Technology: Face-to-Face Communication Versus Technology Communication Among Teens, 85% of teens use some form of chat room, messaging, or email to keep in contact. This is an important statistic because this hows that more and more teens are spending more time on technology rather than spending time face-to0face with their family or the people they are talking to. Technology effects males and females in different ways, females will spend more time texting on their phone and on social media, while males will spend more time watching movies, listening to music, and watching random videos. Spending so much time on social media causes social anxiety because people re no longer talking...

Violence in Video Games

By: Makenna Calderon             Video games have such an impact on society especially in adolescence and teens . When you play a certain type of video game for a long period of time, you will start picking up habits from the game or the characteristics of the characters an that is not always the best. There have been multiple studies done on what effects video games have on teens and their aggression and how violent they are if they are violent. According to “The Effect of Violence and Competition within Video Games on Aggression,” violence brings out aggression and the more you see violence the more use to it you are and the more you think it is normal. There were 40 males and 24 females involved in the study and they were asked to play 2 video games that contain violence, 2 that are competitive based, with 2 that are win/loses. The two goals of this study were to use all the same video games to see what type of impact they h...

Teenagers View on Technology

By: Makenna Calderon             Growing up, all of the technology companies like Apple, had already come out with the internet and were coming out and developing the iPhone and all of the other Apple technology . Before that, our parents grew up without the internet and it did not come out until the 90’s when they were in high school/college. The generation of teenagers today grew up with the internet and technology right there in their hands. They were getting iPhones in elementary school and always knew what their friends and family were up to not because they talked to them or called them, but because of social media like Instagram, Snapchat, twitter, and other apps like that.   Especially because of the Covid pandemic, teenagers have now spent even more time on the internet and on technology to not only keep up with their peers and family, but to learn and to get educated.       ...

Social Media and Teens

By: Caitlin Jensen Social media is a website or an app that allows people to post and interact with other users in what is called social networking. There are many different social media companies. There are Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, Pintrest, Reddit. These companies allow people to post about many different things. Though each platform tends to specialize in a specific type of content. YouTube is more for longer videos about many different things, some people do video blogs, some do tutorials for practically anything, some just make funny videos for peoples’ amusement. TikTok is for short videos mostly for entertaining people. Facebook is more the family and old people social media platform. Teens mostly use Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and YouTube. These platforms are where the “cool” trends come from. The cool thing that I last heard of were doing TikTok dances. On these social media platforms is where teenagers collectively agree on whether or...

Effects on Time Management and Procrastination

By Joshua Huish Have you thought about ways that time management is affected by your teen schooling?  One definition we found with time management as planning time that helps is to carry out goals, targets, and activities from our social life. 1 In addition, time management does not solve the problem for individuals in itself. Instead, it helps people reach their effective solutions and consequences. Since we live in the digital age, there are so many effects on time management (specifically in priorities and procrastination) with teenagers and the use of technology.  First, we explain smartphone addiction. This has become more common these days. In the past, addiction was more on substances such as drugs or alcohol. But in today’s digital age, it changed a little. This is still a thing with addiction to drugs and alcohol, but we also see it on non-substance addictions. These are an addition that is most commonly called a technology addiction. 2 This type of addiction is a ...

Video Games

By Joshua Huish This blog post is about teens and technology. This blog post goes over the use it has in our society, between the good and bad way.  Video games play a huge role for many teens in our society. There is much video game research that is done that focuses on how games are impacted in academic and social outcomes (in aggression in particular).  There is a study that was done back in 2008 that asked about half of the teens reported playing video games yesterday, and those who played daily usually played for an hour or more. This is crazy that in today's age, the majority of our society teenagers play some type of video games, whether if they are a game console (Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, etc.), computer games, portal gaming devices (Nintendo DS, Switch, etc.), or other types of video games (these also include games on their cellphones). 2 What we have found that is so interesting to look into is many teenagers do not limit themselves to just a couple of game genres. In...
